Don't Get Carried Away

My outfit today is pretty basic. Whenever I need to quickly put an outfit together, I tend to keep it simple and add nice touches to spruce things up. Here I am wearing a sleeveless turtleneck sweater with jeans, adding gold accents with my accessories. I also wore the new purse I blogged about in my last post, which I absolutely love.

Blue Crush

I have always been a huge fan of color. So it makes me so happy to see how trendy colors have been lately. Bright jeans, color blocking, monochromatic outfits--all these trends have welcomed bright colors into our wardrobes, even during Fall. One color I have been loving lately is blue. Here are some of my recent purchases of blue items that I am happy to have added to my closet. Stay tuned for outfits with these new pieces!

What do you think of the recent wave of color? Do you love it or hate it?

All That Glitters is Gold

I would say one of the most distinct characteristics of my personal style is that I like to make basics fun and fresh. This can be achieved many ways, including accessorizing a plain outfit or wearing "basics" that have a distinct twist. If this doesn't make sense to you, let me explain. In this outfit, I am wearing a totally basic outfit: a white button down, pleated shorts, and pumps. Since the scheme of this outfit is pretty simple, I like to choose pieces that actually make a statement themselves. This basic outfit is spiced up when the shorts are a vibrant gold and the pumps are virtually made of fairy dust. It may be hard to pull a full pant-suit in a bright metallic anywhere other than the runway--but gold shorts? I say go for it.

Let me know what you think!

Red Haute

I've always felt that red is an extremely empowering color. It is sexy, vibrant, and makes a statement. You need a lot of confidence to really pull off the color red, especially an entirely red outfit. That is why I love that red was the color of the Go Red for Women Red Dress Fashion Show, an annual American Heart Association charity event for heart disease in women. Here is my outfit for the event.

Make a Statement

I always mention in my posts how jewelry and accessories can make or break an outfit. I have lots and lots of jewelry, but the significance is that statement jewelry, well, makes a statement! Statement jewelry are pieces that really stand out from everything else you have on, while still pulling the entire look together. My plain top and jeans are glammed up by a statement necklace I am wearing here.

Orange You Glad?

For this nail art post, I tried something a little different: a simple stripe design with a mood-boosting color palate. The peach, orange, and gold color combination really put me in a good mood for the days I wore this nail art. I am a big believer that the colors you wear can affect how you feel.

It's on in Neon

Neon colors were a big trend this summer. Wearing them can be really fun and give you a definite energy boost, but the trend can also go horribly wrong. One rule about pulling off the neon look is to pair it with neutrals. There are two ways to do this. If you really want your neon color to pop, pair it with a black or white neutral, as I did in this outfit. The strong contrast highlights the color (literally). If you'd like to tone down your neon, pair it with a more natural neutral, like brown, tan, or gray. This combination allows the neutral to complement the neon color for the perfect balance.

Did you rock neon colors this summer?

Short Story

Denim shorts are a wardrobe essential that never go out of style. They can be worn in summer with a tank top and shorts, as well as in winter with tights and a blazer. They come in all shapes and sizes: ripped, cuffed, faded, short, long, dark, light--the list goes on and on. Here I wore a very simple outfit, a white tank top with cuffed denim shorts, perfect for the heat that comes at the end of summer. A unique belt and pretty sandals add some life to the look.

A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes

As you may have noticed, I am an extremely girly girl. But sometimes, I go a little overboard :) I love the color pink, hearts, and flowers. In this post, all these are combined. I have always loved the color combination of pink and green; I decided to do my nails with mint green and pink nail polishes in an inverted “V” design. Each middle finger also had a heart-shaped rhinestone. I thought the outcome was really cute and sweet.

Show Your Stripes

Stripes are one of those timeless "trends" that never really go out of style. Although they come "back in style" every now and then, stripes can be worn any time, any season, for almost any occasion. Its versatility is one of the many reasons why I love this style. Another reason? It is so simple while still being so chic. Stripes can look great with a lot of accessories yet still look just as awesome worn plainly. There are barely ways to go wrong. I am definitely a huge fan of stripes.

A Pocket Full of Posies

Summer is the perfect time to experiment with different colors, textures, and styles. Mixing and matching simple basics can yield new and interesting results each time. Here I layered two ribbed tank tops and paired them with a great pair of skinny cargo pants. A large purse in a stand-out color (I decided to match mine to my top) really ties the look together for a great summery feel.

The Grass is Always Greener…

I love painting my nails in eccentric colors. They are the perfect pop of color for a toned-down outfit or a great addition to an already colorful look. Show off your playful side with a wild nail polish like the one I am wearing in this post. (Unfortunately, the nail color came out a little more bluish in these pictures than it actually is. The color is more of a greenish/blue.)

Would you wear an unconventional color on your nails?

Zip It

I absolutely love when otherwise plain pieces have unique details or embellishments. A few studs, zippers, or sequins can really turn a simple piece of clothing into a distinctive must-have. For example, without the zipper down the center, the top I am wearing in this outfit would just be a regular nude tank top. I especially love when the bottom of skinny pants have zippers down the sides, like the cargos I am wearing in this outfit do.

Do you think embellishments are a fun addition or just too much?

Short & Sweet

There is probably no trend I love more than colorblock. It is such an easy look to pull off but can be so fashion forward. Colorblock is one of those “timeless trends” that keep coming back. While some styles are forever gone once they pass, this style can be worn time and time again but still look trendy. I love how polished and fashionable the style looks once it is completely pulled together.

Golden Girl

I recently saw the idea for “golden” nails in one of my fashion and beauty magazines. I thought it was such a pretty look that would go so well with gold jewelry. I decided to add my own twist to it, including my flower design on each ring finger topped with glitter.
What do you think of the result?

Bright & Girly

As much as I am a huge fan of color, I do have days where I enjoy wearing neutrals (other than my typical all black). The great thing about neutrals is that combined with the right accessories, the look can seem effortlessly chic. Here I paired a simple white button-down top with brown pants and accessorized with a fun scarf as well as matching flats and purse.

Knotty or Nice?

The perfect way to "glam up" a plain outfit? Statement jewelry. I love statement jewelry because it is so chic and it is simple to pull off. A t-shirt and jeans combination can be easily styled with some exciting jewelry, like the statement "knot" necklace I wore in this outfit, to make it more fashionable.

Baby, I Was Born This Way

My apologies for my short hiatus from blogging; I took a trip in celebration of my birthday! Today I again decided to post about one of my "nail art" designs...I have way too much fun with them, especially with this most recent project. I really like the outcome, although it was a little crazy (even for me). I had fun with the geometric/futuristic theme, mixing the hot pink color with the cool metallic and a triangular rhinestone on each ring finger. I kept calling them "Lady Gaga nails" even though my eccentric nail design is nothing compared to some of the stuff she wears or does (I love her!).

Well, what do you think of it?

Strike a Pose

Ah, the bun. It has seen me through many phases of my life: years of ballet as a child, the cool "messy" bun in middle school, and the sleek and sophisticated bun of today. The bun is a really easy and chic way to top off an outfit (literally!). I like to wear a bun when a top or dress I am wearing has a really interesting neckline or detailing. I also like to wear one with big jewelry, like large earrings or a statement necklace. A bun can be elegant, sexy, or casual depending on how you wear it. A sleek and high bun is more polished, while a low and softer bun is toned down. This hair style is one of my favorites and is extremely versatile.

Put a Little Spring in Your Step

Spring is the time to bring out the warm weather staples: shorts, sandals, and bright colors. One of my favorite colors for Spring is coral. It is a color that looks feminine and beautiful on every skin tone. Pairing a coral top with cute shorts is a perfect day look; switch them out for a pair of white pants and heels for a great evening outfit.

What do you think? Do you like the color coral for your spring staples?

Take Over Control

I am an avid fan of jewelry; I have tons and love incorporating it into my outfits. But a style that has caught my eye a lot lately is "jewelry-inspired" pieces. Embellishments on clothing have always been around, but recently I have noticed more and more how much the stones, chains, and studs on some tops and dresses resemble actual jewelry. Here, I wore my braided chain halter top. When wearing a top or dress with "heavy metal" around the neck, actual jewelry in that general area should be minimal (i.e. no necklace or earrings, or just small studs like I wore here). The same goes for other areas; for example, embellished sleeves should be worn without bracelets or watches.

What do you think about "jewelry-inspired" clothing?

Once in a Blue Moon

Like other accessories, nail "art" can be a fun way to express yourself. The best part about it is that there is not much commitment; if you're not happy with the income, it takes minutes to remove or change. For that reason, I like experimenting with wild colors and fun additions. Here, I used a bright blue polish for the main color, added a swipe of silver on both index fingers, and a star-shaped rhinestone on each ring finger. I thought the outcome was really fun and unique!

Haute and Heavy

As I often say, fashion and style are a great way to express yourself. You can style your look depending on your mood, on the occasion, on the weather. Syle is ever-changing; trends come and go - certain bits stay with us while others get left behind. My style varies on a daily basis: one day I may wear a pink floral dress and the next I am decked out in black and studs. To me, that is what makes fashion so fun...you can be anyone you want to be, and change it just as effortlessly.

What are your thoughts? Do you change your look all the time? Or do you tend to lean toward one style more than others?

Take Me to Wonderland

Over the last few weeks, I have really been discovering the color brown. I have always loved the way others wear it, but black has always been my personal basis...so brown didn't seem to fit in the picture for me. But lately, it has been the perfect base for my outfits. As a neutral,  it goes well with a lot of colors and pieces. As the focal point, it is easy to put together a great "brown-based" ensemble. I'm not so sure what was holding me back before. While black will forever have my heart, I am happy to make some room for the newly beloved brown.

What are your thoughts, black or brown - or both? ;)

This Time...

Yet another night wearing my go-to all black ensemble had me yearning to spice things up. Make up is always the perfect "accessory" for me. I get my style inspiration from all over, including fashion magazines, style blogs, celebrities, and more. Here, I tried an eye makeup look I recently saw in a magazine. I loved how the purple shades of eyeshadow stood out against the neutral black.

True Blue

Every girl should have an off-the-shoulder top in her closet. They are so feminine and show the perfect amount of skin; the shoulder and collarbone are such vulnerable parts on a woman's body. These tops are flirty and sensual, the perfect look for a romantic evening or a night out.

A Floral Affair

As spring settles in, all I see around me is flowers...Flowers on the ground, flowers on clothes, flowers everywhere. Floral patterns are fun and carefree. You can wear a subtle version, like my scarf, or a full-on floral look, like a floral print dress. However you wear it, it is the perfect print for spring.

I Just Came to Say Hello

I'm so glad to be welcoming shorts back into my life with the warmer weather. Denim shorts are a timeless wardrobe essential. They can be dressed up or down; they can be a "neutral" piece or the focal point of an outfit. They are just so versatile! I probably have twenty pairs, ranging from ripped, pleated, cuffed, embellished, and more.

Read My Lips

Simplicity goes a long way. Some of my favorite outfits are styled with minimal jewelry and accessories. It's so effortless to throw on a nice jacket with a simple tank top and jeans. A strong red lip makes a statement and adds a pop of color to pull everything together.

Precious Cargo

I have a new love affair with cargo pants. In fashion, they say things always keep coming back in style. The last time cargo pants were in, I absolutely hated them. I felt like they were bulky and unflattering. Now the skinny cargo pant has made its debut, finally showing off some of our curves (which I love)!

What do you think of the return of the cargo pants trend?

A Touch of Turquoise

I have a little bit of an obsession with matching. I love when things go well with each other...it gives me a type of excitement I can't really describe. It's like certain pieces were just made to be paired together! Here, the stitching on my top matches the cardigan and turquoise bracelet, while the top, ring, and boots are all the same shade. And of course, being a total makeup lover, my eyes had to pull the whole "turquoise" theme together :)

How do you guys feel about matching - are you matchy-matchy like me, or like to mix and match different types of pieces?

A Serious Converse-ation

Since I can remember, there have always been at least one pair of Converse sneakers in my closet. When I was five years old, I had the cutest pair of purple high-tops. They have gotten me through long school days, crazy concerts, and more. Trends and styles come and go, but Converse All Stars are timeless. They are simply a staple for a casual look.

"Cuff Your Jeans, Girl!"

I have a love/hate relationship with menswear. While I love boyfriend jeans on other girls, it sometimes appears that I am swimming in fabric rather than wearing actual clothes. Often times, my small frame gets lost in boxy blazers and loose button down shirts. Alas--as always is in fashion--not everything works for everyone. However, I do love menswear-INSPIRED pieces that are made to fit a woman's shape. I absolutely fell in love with this shirt because it was fitted in all the right areas and had little girlie details like the cute buttons and lace shoulders. Plus, adding a belt at the waist can never hurt! :)

Purple Pizzazz

The transitioning between seasons gives you a great opporunity to mix things up with your closet. Pairing shorts and sneakers with long sleeves and a scarf is a perfect example. Choose pieces from your winter wardrobe with pieces worn in the spring for a fun and easy look.

Lost in a Sea of Blue

As the weather is getting warmer the layers are slowly peeling away and the bright colors of spring are finally coming out. Excitement got the best of me and I had a little too much fun wearing one of my favorite colors, turquoise. But after a winter full of blacks and grays I openly welcome some color back into my wardrobe. Spring couldn't have come sooner.

Emerald City

As you may have noticed, I love nail polish. I change my nail color every few days. My obsession today? "Emerald City" by Revlon. I like the cool color and the fact that this polish dries matte.

Fill in the Missing Pieces

An urban look is very easy to pull off. Interesting details and unique pieces can really do the trick. Here, I wore a cool cut-out sweater accented with zipper details on the jeans and purse. Lace-up booties pull the look together.

What a Stud

In my opinion, studs are the perfect embellishment to clothing and accessories. They add a futuristic touch to any outfit. I like to pair studded pieces with metallic accessories, like these shoes and purse. Trying different combinations will help find the best look for you.

Back to Basics

Once again, I am sporting my typical "all black" ensemble. I find it easiest to throw on black basics and accessorize around them. Here, I chose to wear animal print flats, my Michael Kors logo purse and gold jewelry to pull the look together. Comfortable and stylish - the perfect combination! :)

Electric Shock

Now that the weather is slowly getting warmer, I am finally transitioning into strapless tops and sandals (some of my spring/summer staples). The scarf stayed on and the sweater was available at a moment's notice in my bag, but at least my skin got a chance to see some sun.

How is your wardrobe transitioning into spring?

A Pop of Red for Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is the perfect time to experiment with fierce color. I almost always opt for either red or pink in honor of the "lovely" holiday ;)

Happy Valentine's Day everyone ♥

Luscious Leopard

Yet again, animal print has found its way into my wardrobe. I think I have come to the conclusion that leopard print is my favorite of all animal prints. It is just so easy to wear and always looks luxurious.

Oreo Cookie

Black and white: the simplest way to be chic and stylish. When the combination is done just right, the look can be extremely sophisticated. This look is all about basics--a simple color scheme, clean lines, and a very "put together" feel. You can play around by adding a pop of color (in a purse or shoe), statement jewelry, or keep it simple with classic accessories. This is a look that caters to virtually everyone; anyone can customize it to work for them.

Sizzling Snake Print

Animal prints are always a fun and sometimes wild addition to an outfit. A simple leopard scarf or pump is a playful way to try the look. If you want to take it up a notch, try a piece of animal print clothing, like a top, dress, or--like in my case--leggings. With the right attitude, this look can be fun yet polished.

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

Born for Bouclé

In my opinion, bouclé is one of the best fabrics for winter. For those of us who still attempt to be fashionable during the colder months, it is the perfect package--warm, comfortable, and stylish. I paired my snow white bouclé sweater with an always versatile sweater dress. Fun leg wear--legwarmers, patterned tights, and slouchy boots--topped off with a round scarf, complete the look.

Monday, January 24, 2011

Naturally Neutral

I think it is already pretty obvious how much I love an all-black outfit. This "neutral" base just gives you so much to work with. With all black, accessories are the key to a perfect look. In the colder weather, a big scarf, matching booties, and a statement clutch are the perfect accents to your outfit.

Sunday, January 23, 2011

Silver Sightings

A sweater dress is an always classic, easy-to-wear look. Worn with leggings or tights, this outfit is extremely comfortable without sacrificing fashion. To add some excitement to a plain ensemble, big jewelry or intense makeup (or both!) can really enhance the look.

I ♥ Shearling

One of my favorite things about winter is boots. Knee-high boots, flat boots, booties - I love them all! When I bought these booties I fell in love...they are the perfect combination: shearling, lace-up, and a high heel.
