A while back, I was filmed in a video for the Kmart "Show us What You Got" campaign, a marketing effort meant to highlight their new more fashion-forward clothing lines. In each episode, they follow a fashionable girl in a different city and then give her a box of Kmart clothes. She chooses outfits based on her style and showcases those looks. A Kmart team member had approached me on the street to be featured in one of their episodes. It was an awesome experience and I was happy to share a little bit about me and my style. The byproduct has finally been released! Check it out :)

Blue Suede Shoes
True to my love of color, my outfit today revolves around my fairly new blue suede BCBG sandals. I love their hue and wore a matching top to call even more attention to them. Worn with skinny jeans rolled up at the ankles, these sandals are the highlight of this outfit.

Block Party
The colored denim trend has taken the world by storm. Available in virtually every color, there is an option for everyone. A fun addition to your wardrobe, these jeans give you an outlet to express yourself through color. The best way to rock this trend is to pair with neutrals so that the pants can be the main focus. For example, a black blazer, black top, and black pumps call attention to a bright blue pair. Or, a basic white t-shirt allows red skinny jeans to do all the talking (as I've worn here).

Don't Get Carried Away
My outfit today is pretty basic. Whenever I need to quickly put an outfit together, I tend to keep it simple and add nice touches to spruce things up. Here I am wearing a sleeveless turtleneck sweater with jeans, adding gold accents with my accessories. I also wore the new purse I blogged about in my last post, which I absolutely love.
What do you think of this easy ensemble?

Blue Crush
I have always been a huge fan of color. So it makes me so happy to see how trendy colors have been lately. Bright jeans, color blocking, monochromatic outfits--all these trends have welcomed bright colors into our wardrobes, even during Fall. One color I have been loving lately is blue. Here are some of my recent purchases of blue items that I am happy to have added to my closet. Stay tuned for outfits with these new pieces!
What do you think of the recent wave of color? Do you love it or hate it?

All That Glitters is Gold
I would say one of the most distinct characteristics of my personal style is that I like to make basics fun and fresh. This can be achieved many ways, including accessorizing a plain outfit or wearing "basics" that have a distinct twist. If this doesn't make sense to you, let me explain. In this outfit, I am wearing a totally basic outfit: a white button down, pleated shorts, and pumps. Since the scheme of this outfit is pretty simple, I like to choose pieces that actually make a statement themselves. This basic outfit is spiced up when the shorts are a vibrant gold and the pumps are virtually made of fairy dust. It may be hard to pull a full pant-suit in a bright metallic anywhere other than the runway--but gold shorts? I say go for it.
Let me know what you think!

Interview with Style Says
Last week I had the chance to interview with Jess from Style Says, a site which gives users the ability to chat with friends about different fashion pieces. I had a lot of fun talking to him, a smart guy with an awesome idea. Read his answers to my questions below. To read my interview for Style Says on their blog, click here or read it below as well. Red Haute
I've always felt that red is an extremely empowering color. It is sexy, vibrant, and makes a statement. You need a lot of confidence to really pull off the color red, especially an entirely red outfit. That is why I love that red was the color of the Go Red for Women Red Dress Fashion Show, an annual American Heart Association charity event for heart disease in women. Here is my outfit for the event.

Make a Statement
I always mention in my posts how jewelry and accessories can make or break an outfit. I have lots and lots of jewelry, but the significance is that statement jewelry, well, makes a statement! Statement jewelry are pieces that really stand out from everything else you have on, while still pulling the entire look together. My plain top and jeans are glammed up by a statement necklace I am wearing here.

It's on in Neon
Neon colors were a big trend this summer. Wearing them can be really fun and give you a definite energy boost, but the trend can also go horribly wrong. One rule about pulling off the neon look is to pair it with neutrals. There are two ways to do this. If you really want your neon color to pop, pair it with a black or white neutral, as I did in this outfit. The strong contrast highlights the color (literally). If you'd like to tone down your neon, pair it with a more natural neutral, like brown, tan, or gray. This combination allows the neutral to complement the neon color for the perfect balance.
Did you rock neon colors this summer?

Short Story
Denim shorts are a wardrobe essential that never go out of style. They can be worn in summer with a tank top and shorts, as well as in winter with tights and a blazer. They come in all shapes and sizes: ripped, cuffed, faded, short, long, dark, light--the list goes on and on. Here I wore a very simple outfit, a white tank top with cuffed denim shorts, perfect for the heat that comes at the end of summer. A unique belt and pretty sandals add some life to the look.

A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes
As you may have noticed, I am an extremely girly girl. But sometimes, I go a little overboard :) I love the color pink, hearts, and flowers. In this post, all these are combined. I have always loved the color combination of pink and green; I decided to do my nails with mint green and pink nail polishes in an inverted “V” design. Each middle finger also had a heart-shaped rhinestone. I thought the outcome was really cute and sweet.
What do you think, pretty or over-the-top?

Show Your Stripes
Stripes are one of those timeless "trends" that never really go out of style. Although they come "back in style" every now and then, stripes can be worn any time, any season, for almost any occasion. Its versatility is one of the many reasons why I love this style. Another reason? It is so simple while still being so chic. Stripes can look great with a lot of accessories yet still look just as awesome worn plainly. There are barely ways to go wrong. I am definitely a huge fan of stripes.
What are your thoughts on stripes?

A Pocket Full of Posies
Summer is the perfect time to experiment with different colors, textures, and styles. Mixing and matching simple basics can yield new and interesting results each time. Here I layered two ribbed tank tops and paired them with a great pair of skinny cargo pants. A large purse in a stand-out color (I decided to match mine to my top) really ties the look together for a great summery feel.

The Grass is Always Greener…
I love painting my nails in eccentric colors. They are the perfect pop of color for a toned-down outfit or a great addition to an already colorful look. Show off your playful side with a wild nail polish like the one I am wearing in this post. (Unfortunately, the nail color came out a little more bluish in these pictures than it actually is. The color is more of a greenish/blue.)
Would you wear an unconventional color on your nails?

Zip It
I absolutely love when otherwise plain pieces have unique details or embellishments. A few studs, zippers, or sequins can really turn a simple piece of clothing into a distinctive must-have. For example, without the zipper down the center, the top I am wearing in this outfit would just be a regular nude tank top. I especially love when the bottom of skinny pants have zippers down the sides, like the cargos I am wearing in this outfit do.
Do you think embellishments are a fun addition or just too much?

Short & Sweet
There is probably no trend I love more than colorblock. It is such an easy look to pull off but can be so fashion forward. Colorblock is one of those “timeless trends” that keep coming back. While some styles are forever gone once they pass, this style can be worn time and time again but still look trendy. I love how polished and fashionable the style looks once it is completely pulled together.
How do you feel about colorblocking?

Golden Girl
I recently saw the idea for “golden” nails in one of my fashion and beauty magazines. I thought it was such a pretty look that would go so well with gold jewelry. I decided to add my own twist to it, including my flower design on each ring finger topped with glitter.
What do you think of the result?
